Men's Basketball Drops Road Test

Bucs six-game win streak snapped

DAVIE, Fla. -- Barry University's six-game win streak came to an end Saturday, following a 105-91 loss at Nova Southeastern.

The No. 5/12 Buccaneers (18-4, 10-3 Sunshine State Conference) remain in first place in the league, tied with Eckerd. The Bucs will play at No. 24 Rollins 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Tars fell to Florida Tech Saturday, and are one game behind Barry and Eckerd.

Barry never led in the game, but cut a 20-point deficit with 14:05 to play down to seven when Yunio Barrueta came up with a steal and layup at the 4:13 mark. But the Sharks (10-13, 5-9) answered with a 6-0 run to push the lead back to double digits, and the Buccaneers could not recover.

The Buccaneers hit 17 three-pointers, which is tied for second in school single-game history. Barry attempted 40 triples, mostly in part to playing in catch-up mode. The Bucs were outscored, 50-18, in the paint. Only 29 of Barry's 69 field goal attempts came inside the three-point arc.

Barrueta finished with 24 points on 9 of 15 shooting. He was 5 of 11 from long distance. Undra Mitchem scored 19 points on 7 of 14 shooting, including 5 of 10 from 3-point range.
 
Barry trailed by 14 with 2:16 left in the first half, but outscored the Sharks, 8-4, the rest of the half to draw within 10 at the break. The Bucs labored to cut the deficit to under double digits in the second half, drawing within 79-71 on Mitchem's triple at the 7:58 mark. But Nova had an answer for every Barry run.

The Sharks shot 66.7 percent. Chris Page scored 41 points, and Harrison Goodrick had 30 points and 13 rebounds for NSU. The Sharks were 28 of 32 from the free throw line. Barry was 10 of 17 from the stripe. The Bucs were outrebounded 39-24.

Five Buccaneers scored in double figures. Arie Williams and Adrian Gonzalez each had 12 points. Elvar Fridriksson had 11 points and five assists. Gonzalez was 5 of 10 from the floor.
