Women's Basketball Holds Off St. Thomas

Seyranian, Ekdahl score season-highs

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry women's basketball team got off to a quick start and held off St. Thomas, 74-63, Tuesday night.

Three players scored in double figures for the Buccaneers, who built a 43-28 halftime lead. St. Thomas outscored the Bucs in the second half, but Barry pulled out the win.

SUMMARY:

  • 1Q: The Bucs outscored the Bobcats, 21-13, behind seven points apiece from Elin Ekdahl and Juhnae Richardson. Barry was 8 of 17 from the field in the quarter. St. Thomas went 5 of 15.
  • 2Q: Barry bumped its lead to 15 at halftime. Lauren Seyranian scored 10 points on 4 of 6 shooting to lead the Bucs, who shot 60 percent in the period.
  • 3Q: The Buccaneers shot 7 of 17 in the quarter. Four players each scored three points for the Bucs.
  • 4Q: The Bobcats shot 8 of 15 in the period, and outscored the Bucs, 18-12. Allyah Spatafora hit a three-pointer for St. Thomas to cut the deficit to six with 2:35 to go. But Ekdahl canned a triple on the next trip down the floor to seal it for the Bucs.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Barry hit a season-high 28 field goals.
  • Lauren Seyranian had a season-high 23 points. She hit a season-best nine field goals.
  • Elin Ekdahl also had a season-high 21 points, going 8 of 16 from the floor. Her eight baskets also was a season-high.
  • Barry had a season-high 19 assists.
  • Stephane Granada made her home debut, scoring nine points and dishing out a team-high five assists.

ON THE HORIZON:

Barry plays Texas Woman's and Converse at the Bahama House Classic in Daytona Beach Friday and Saturday. The Bucs return home to host Rollins 2 p.m. Dec. 30.
