ST. LEO, Fla.—The third-seeded Barry Buccaneers bowed out of the 2016 Sunshine State Conference Women's Soccer Tournament with a 2-1 loss to second-seed Nova Southeastern at Saint Leo's University Field on Friday night.
The Bucs (10-3-2) jumped on top in the fifth minute when Carissa Sanchez scored her fifth goal of the season on a failed clearance by NSU's Ida Norstrom.
The Bucs' defense, which entered the evening with a 339 minute scoreless streak, made the goal stand up until just over midway through the second half.
But in the 78th minute, the Sharks (12-2-3) found the back of the next twice in 0:47 seconds. Myriah Troutman came out of a scrum in front of the Buccaneer goal with the equalizer at 77:11. Emma Heikkila launched a shot from long range that sailed over the head of Barry keeper Paula Forero at 77:58.
The Sharks out-shot the Bucs 10-3, including 3-1 on goal. Forero had one save in taking the loss, while Norstrom got the win without making a save.
