WINTER PARK, Fla. -- Barry University's volleyball team finished the season with a 25-21, 23-25, 25-16, 21-25, 15-13 loss at Rollins Saturday. It was Barry's ninth five--set match of the season.
The Buccaneers finished the season 16-14, 7-9 in the Sunshine State Conference.Â
Trailing two sets to one, the Buccaneers responded in the fourth set by falling behind 21-14. The Bucs closed the set with a 12-0 run to tie the match at 2-2. The incredible run began with a kill by
Kaitlin Drake and ended with a kill by
Kristina Filimonova.
Barry hit .244 in that set -- its highest attack percentage of the match. The Bucs put away 16 kills in the set.
But Rollins held off the Bucs in the decisive set. Barry's
Kishara Gordon pounded a kill to tie it at 8-8. Drake kept it tied at 9-9 with a kill. Filimonova's kill moved the score to 10-10.
Jaeda Allen's kill knotted it again at 12-12.
Genesis Castillo tied it once more at 13-13, but the Tars took advantage of two Barry hitting errors down the stretch to prevail.
The Bucs had 85 digs to the Tars' 78. Rollins outblocked Barry, 16-7.
Allen finished with 14 kills and 11 digs. She had 414 kills this season -- the most since Julia Teixeira in 2010. Castillo had 14 kills. Filimonova had eight kills and six blocks.
Kat Espinosa had 31 digs.
Jenny Trinidad capped her career with 30 assists, and
Ivana Didanovic five kills. Drake had six kills.
