MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- These girls were in much need of this.
Barry's volleyball team swept Rollins, 25-18, 25-19, 25-22, Friday at the Health & Sports Center. The Buccaneers (10-8, 3-4 Sunshine State Conference) will now try to complete the weekend sweep when they host Embry-Riddle at 4 p.m. Saturday.
Barry hit .303, while holding Rollins (9-10, 1-4) to an .088 attack rate.Â
Ivana Didanovic had nine kills, no errors and hit .529. She also had four blocks.
Kristina Filimonova had eight kills, four blocks and hit .375.
Jenny Trinidad had 19 assists, and
Juliana Tirabassi 18 assists and three aces in the Bucs' 6-2 offense.
The Bucs used a 5-0 run midway through the first set to take a 14-9 lead on a Tars attack error. Rollins committed 22 hitting errors in the match. The Bucs extended the lead to 17-11 on Tirabassi's ace. A kill by Didanovic made it 21-15, and after
Ariel Mangum ripped off an ace,
Jaeda Allen banged down the set point one sideout later.
The Buccaneers hit .323 in the opening set, and made good on 13 of 18 sideout opportunities.Â
Rollins led 8-6 in the second set, following a kill by Bri Civiero, but Barry went up 17-14 on a kill by Filimonova. Castillo's kill pushed the Bucs ahead, 23-18.
Kaitlin Drake pounded the last two balls away to send the Buccaneers into intermission leading 2-0.
Barry hit .320 in the second set. Rollins hit .071.
In the final set, Tirabassi gave the Bucs an 8-2 lead with an ace. Filimonova pushed the gap to 12-4 with a kill. Rollins went on a 10-2 run to cut it to 14-10 on Shannon McDonough's kill. Barry's
Kishara Gordon had a kill to push the Bucs back on top by five before Rollins went on another surge to close within 22-21 on Gina Capetta's ace. But
Brittany Reynolds, Allen and Castillo each had kills down the stretch to seal the match.
Barry had 14 kills in both the first and third sets and 13 in the second.Â
The Buccaneers outblocked the Tars, 10-3. Barry converted 64 percent of its sideouts, while Rollins had a 51 percent conversion rate.
Reynolds, Allen and Castillo each had six kills. Reynolds hit .667 with no errors, and had two solo blocks.
Kat Espinosa finished with 13 digs, and Mangum 10.
