MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry's
Yunio Barrueta tied a school record with 10 three-pointers as the Buccaneers beat Rollins, 98-85, Saturday. Barrueta finished with 40 points, becoming just the third player in school history to reach the mark in a game.
The Buccaneers (9-2, 3-1 Sunshine State Conference) set a school record with 22 triples, and tied a season-high 30 assists. Barry was 22 of 42 from downtown.
Barry overcame a seven-point lead in the second half. Barrueta drilled nine of his 3-pointers in the second half. He was 10 of 16 from long range, and 14 of 26 from the floor. His nine second half triples set a school record. Barrueta also had 13 rebounds and four blocks. It was his seventh double-double of the season.
The Bucs shot 66.7 percent from beyond the arc in the second half, and hit 19 of 31 field goals for 61.3 percent to outscored the Tars, 56-39, after the break.Â
Barry, which plays at Tampa Wednesday before hosting Embry-Riddle next Saturday at 4 p.m., scored over 90 points for the seventh time this season. Rollins (9-4, 2-2) lost its fourth straight.
The Buccaneers built a 12-point lead on
Arie Williams jumper at the 11:25 mark in the first half. Rollins cut it to seven when Sarif Almulla scored on a layup. The Tars went on a 15-5 run to tie the game at 38-38 with 3:18 to play in the opening half. Rollins closed the first half with an 8-4 run to take a 46-42 lead into the break.
Barry shot 36.8 percent in the first half. Rollins hit 60 percent of its field goals.
The Tars bumped their lead to 55-48 with 16:34 remaining, but Barrueta went on a 3-point barrage, hitting three in a row over a 53-second span to trim the gap to 62-60. Williams and Barrueta each hit triples to give the Buccaneers a 66-65 lead before Sam Philpott answered to put the Tars back in front. But the Bucs went on a 8-0 run, capped by a triple by Barrueta with 8:49 left to push Barry in front for good.Â
Barry attempted only 18 of its 69 field goals in the paint. Rollins, on the other hand, shot 49 times from the paint area, and was just six of 21 from long range.Â
Philpott scored 18 points, and Jeff Merton and Deion Clark each had 16 for the Tars.
Undra Mitchem had 15 points, and Williams had 11.
Elvar Fridriksson had 13 assists and seven points, and
Tray Leonard had eight rebounds and four blocks for the Buccaneers.Â
