Barry Volleyball Meets Lynn on Road Tuesday

Buccaneers in search of third straight win

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. — Barry University's volleyball team takes a two-game winning streak to the road when they play at Lynn University 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The Buccaneers need to be mentally engaged because they will be playing against two juniors who can give a lot of teams headaches if opponents do not bring their A game. Both juniors, Marissa Tandron and Christiana Llorens, were currently selected to the Panther Invitational last weekend. The Buccaneers will look to stop that trend of dominance when they take on Lynn.

Barry (4-3, 2-1 Sunshine State Conference) will have to deal with Lynn's versatility. The Fighting Knights are averaging 12.12 kills per match. However, the one thing that the Buccaneers have on their side is the momentum of winning two in a row, while the Knights have lost four straight. Lynn currently holds a record of 5-5 overall, 0-3 in the conference.

Bucs newcomer Kaitlyn Drake has provided a lift in Barry's offense of late. She had 20 kills two nights ago, and she leads the team with 107 kills.  Barry setters Jenny Trinidad and Jasmine Serna have combined for 320 of the Bucs' 345 assists this season. Ivana Didanovic looks to ride her emotional high of being recognized as the AVSR Global Player of the Week. She leads the team in blocks with 23, and Katie Dooley is second with 21. Didanovic had 10 blocks over this past weekend.

This will be a pivotal match with the Fighting Knights since Barry is seeking revenge after it ended up losing both matches to Lynn a year ago. The Bucs will need to find a way defensively in this match if they hope to be successful in Boca Raton. So far this season, the Bucs have averaged 1.57 blocks per set, while the opposition is averaging 2.13. The Buccaneers will look to improve on that Tuesday. Brittany Jaco leads the team with 5.90 digs per set.
