Men's Soccer Draws 2-2 With Fighting Knights

Perez scored a brace to lead the Bucs

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers and Lynn Fighting Knights played to a 2-2 draw in Sunshine State Conference men's soccer action at Buccaneer Field on Wednesday night.

The Knights (2-1-2, 0-1-1 SSC), the defending national champs, jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute. Hussein Heidari took a throw in on the right sideline and Dominik Freidl flicked a pass up the middle to a streaking Chris Hellmann who buried the one-on-one chance against Buccaneer keeper Bo Haug.

Down 1-0 at the half, despite holding a 6-4 edge in shots and 3-1 edge in corners, the Bucs (4-0-2, 0-0-1 SSC) gave away another goal in the 48th minute. Bernd Eilers slipped a pass out to the right wing to Bruno Militz who blasted a 22-yard shot to the far post for the goal.

The Bucs finally got on the board in the 52nd minute. Pablo Georgakopoulos blasted a shot from 30 yards out that deflected off Knights keeper Jonny DeMoya straight to the feet of Manuel Perez who chipped in the rebound.

Perez struck again in the 56th minute with a beautiful assist from Sergio Yepes. After a freee kick, Georgakopoulos launched a long pass up the left sideline and Yepes launched a long cross into the middle of the box. Perez struck it out of the air for his second goal.

Haug made four saves, while DeMoya had 8 and got a back save from Heidari to preserve the tie. The Bucs held a huge 22-11 edge in shots, including 11-6 on goal. Barry also had eight corners to just two for the Knights.

It was a chippy game, with 49 total fouls and 10 yellow cards assessed.

The Bucs travel to St. Leo, Fla., on Saturday, Sept. 26 to face the Saint Leo Lions at 7:00 pm.
