LIVINGSTON, Ala. – A weekend trip up north has ended on the perfect note as Barry men's soccer secured its third-straight win Sunday, as it defeated West Alabama 4-1.
The Buccaneers earned the win after struggling back-and-forth with the Tigers in the first half as both teams had several shots-on-goal, but neither side could put it away.
That would change in the 42
nd minute, when defender
Michael Dodds scored his first goal on a header off a
Patrick Borchert free kick.
However, after halftime the Bucs would deal with a setback as UWA midfielder Jean-Baptist Meyniel would score a free-kick goal from just outside the 18-yard box to tie the game at 1-1.
But, Barry would respond in a big way.
The Bucs would take the lead back in the 79
th minute when Dodds scored his second goal of the day as he slotted the ball into the net off an
Alex Doyle corner kick.
Barry would add to their lead just a few minutes later, as midfielder
Manuel Perez would score his second goal of the season to give the Bucs a 3-1 lead. On the assist for the goal was
Leonel Awokang.
Senior
Patrick Drmola would add the perfect finishing note on the Bucs' victory, as he scored with just seven seconds left in the game for his third goal of the year. Assisting him on the goal was freshman
Sergio Yepes.
Bucs goalkeeper
Bo Haug would have three saves in 90 minutes of action in his fourth start of the year.
The Bucs improve to 3-0-1 while West Alabama stands at 1-3-0. This is Barry's first three-game winning streak since September of 2013.
Up next for the Bucs is a drive to Miami Gardens to take on local rivals St. Thomas on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 4:30 PM.
