Clinton, Miss. -- In a game that had several close chances and was cut short by stormy weather, Barry men's soccer grinded out their road win of the year in a 1-0 victory over Mississippi College.
The first half was a back-and-forth fight between the Buccaneers and the Choctaws, with Barry outshooting their opponent 8-2. However, this advantage would come to little use as the Bucs could not convert and the game would remain scoreless at the half.
In the second half, the Bucs came out hot, going full throttle in an attempt to net their first goal. Several Bucs had shots-on-goal blocked by last-second desperate defending by Mississippi College.
The scoring drought would end in the 59
th minute, as the ball would pinball between players on both team inside the 18-yard box before falling at the feet of sophomore midfielder
Hanno Antoni, who would put it away to score his first goal for the Buccaneers.
The remainder of the game consisted of the Bucs attempting to put the game away with a second goal but before they could do so, a lightening delay was signaled. An attempt to restart the game commenced 30 minutes later but after just a few minutes of play the bad weather returned.
The second lightening delay allowed the game to be officially called and the Bucs earned their second-straight win.
This is the first winning streak for the Bucs since 2013, when they won the Sunshine State Conference tournament with wins over Lynn and Saint Leo.
Goalkeeper
Bo Haug had one save on the day and it was the play of the game with Haug making a point blank save in the box, keeping the score in the Bucs' favor.
The Bucs improve to 2-0-1 on the year, while Mississippi College falls to 0-3-0.
Up next for Barry is a trip to Livingston, Alabama as they take on West Alabama, Sunday Sept.13 at 2 PM.
