JACKSON, Miss. -- After two games at home in Miami Shores to start off the season, Barry men's soccer heads north this weekend to take on two regional opponents in their first away games of the season.
In their first two games, the Buccaneers saw highlights from players such as junior forward
Thomas Coombes, who leads the team with three goals and two assists, and senior forward
Patrick Drmola, scorer of two goals.
Also showing their worth are newcomers
Nyle Patel,
Patrick Borchert and
Hanno Antoni, who each have had assists on goals so far this season.
The Bucs will first travel to Clinton, Miss. to take on Mississippi College on Friday, Sept. 11 at 4:30 PM EST.
The Choctaws will be taking on their third-straight Sunshine State Conference opponents after two losses to Nova Southeastern and Florida Tech.
Mississippi College has several players that could prove threats to the Bucs' hope of a victory. Junior forward Kendall Carballo scored a goal in the Choctaws' loss to Nova Southeastern on Sep. 3, with the assist coming from junior midfielder Tobias Betz.
Sophomore goalkeeper Humberto Pelaez has 11 saves in 180 minutes played and a 0.73 save percentage.
On Sunday, Sept 13 at 2 PM EST, the Bucs will travel to Livingston, Ala. to take on West Alabama. Like Mississippi College, West Alabama is not a newcomer to SSC competition this year as they defeated Nova Southeastern 3-0 on Sep. 07.
Playmakers for the Tigers include freshman forward AJ Williams, who has one goal and an assist on the season. Senior defender Alex Brown and senior freshman Clay Green also scored goals in the win over Nova.
Sophomore goalkeeper Brad Louis has seven saves in two games and had a shutout against Nova.
Barry will be up against opponents who will recognize their style of play and their competitiveness, but with the feeling of victory already in the books, the Bucs will look to continue having that effect on their season.
