Softball Drops Doubleheader To Tars

Bucs fall to 8-4 in the SSC

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers dropped both ends of a Sunshine State Conference softball doubleheader to the Rollins Tars, 7-1 and 5-4 in eight innings at Buccaneer field on Saturday.

In the first game, Rollins' Niki Folge (23-5) held the Bucs (24-9, 8-4 SSC) to just a run on three hits as the Tars (30-5, 11-4 SSC) cruised to the win. Taylor Sabol (8-4) took the loss for the Bucs, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks in 5.1 innings.

In the second game, Rollins built a 3-0 lead on solo home runs by Hailee Keisling, Jule Kranz and Chelsea Reed. The Bucs rallied to tie the game. Alayna Gallagher doubled home two runs in the fifth and Ashley Fernandez scored on a double by Kristina Pazienza in the sixth.

The Tars scored the winning runs in the top on the eighth on a dropped fly ball by right fielder Hunter Mars.

Ashley Fernandez hit her third homer of the year in the bottom of the inning, but that was all the Bucs could get off Fogel, who picked up the win in the second game as well. She allowed four runs on nine hits and three walks and struck out five. Haley Wiseman took the loss for the Bucs, allowing five runs on 12 hits and three walks. She struck out 10.

The Bucs are off for the next eight days before squaring off against Nova Southeastern on Tuesday and Wednesday, Apr. 7-8 at Buccaneer Field.
