Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University women's basketball team made a second half push, but couldn't get over the hump in a 56-45 loss to No. 14 Rollins Wednesday night on Think Pink Cancer Awareness Day in the Health & Sports Center.
The Buccaneers (11-12, 3-8 Sunshine State Conference) kept the Tars (19-2, 10-1) in check in the first half in a 22-22 deadlock. But Rollins opened up a 19-point lead at the 12:37 mark, forcing Barry to play catch-up. The Bucs went on a 13-0 run over the next 4:50 to pull within six.
Amra Elezovic hit a three-pointer,
Ashley Lutz canned a field goal,
Lynae Richardson scored,
Kaylia Richardson had a layup and
Nyjah Porcher added a transition basket off a scramble for a loose ball
Kaylia Richardson was able to come up with, cutting the Tars lead to 43-35 with 8:21 remaining.
Lynae Richardson's layup at the 7:47 mark made it a six-point game.
Rollins went ahead by nine on Sarah Taylor's triple with 3:33 to play before Porcher canned a 3 of her own at the 2:59 mark to make it 48-42. But the Tars pushed the lead back to double digits, and Barry didn't have an answer down the stretch.
The Bucs outrebounded the Tars, 39-36.
Kaylia Richardson finished with a double-double, scoring 12 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, dishing out five assists and coming up with three steals in 36 minutes. Elezovic scored 14 points. Porcher had five points, seven rebounds, three assists and a steal.
Emmalee Schill had 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Tars, who shot five of 20 from long range.Â
Barry was six of 27 from beyond the arc, and attempted just four free throws. Rollins went 17 of 23 at the line.
The Bucs will play at Nova Southeastern 2 p.m. Saturday.
