MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers dive back into Sunshine State Conference play on Wednesday as they host arch-rival Lynn Fighting Knights in the Health & Sports Center at 5:30 pm in women's basketball.
The Buccaneers have won back-to-back games to cross-town rivals Florida Memorial and Johnson & Wales since falling to Florida Southern on the road to begin the conference season.
Barry is 4-2 overall and 0-1 in the SSC, while Lynn checks in at 1-4 and 0-2 in the league. The only common opponent this season has been Florida Southern. Barry lost to the Mocs 71-55 in Lakeland, while the Knights fell 77-61 in Boca Raton.
Senior forward Amra Elezovic paces the Bucs with 17.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. She is shooting 49.3 percent from the floor and 88.9 from the free throw line. She is also second on the team at 3.5 assists per game. Elezovic is fourth in the league in scoring and sixth in rebounding.
Senior guard Jackie Perez is second in scoring at 11.8 points per game and leads the team in assists at 3.7. At 50.0 percent from three-point range, Perez leads the SSC in long-range shooting and in made three-pointers per game. She and Elezovic are third and fourth in assists in the SSC. Ines Kerin, another senior guard, chips in 10.3 points per game and 1.5 assists.
Tifani Kerrison leads Lynn and is sixth in the league in scoring at 15.2 points per game. The senior guard also leads the team in rebounding at 6.0 per game.
Three Knights average 9.0 points per game, including junior center Charla Nelson-Jones who is tied with Kerrison at 6.0 rebound per game. Senior guard Zachara Bailey and sophomore guard Gabby Goeins also chip in 9.0 points per game. They average 3.4 and 3.0 assists per game.
Barry leads the all-time series 27-19, but it's been very even in the last five years, with Barry holding a mere 6-4 edge. Last season, the teams split game, with each winning at home.
