MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry women's basketball opens up their 2015-16 home schedule as they take on Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras, Saturday afternoon.
The Buccaneers are coming a 71-55 loss to conference opponent Florida Southern, the aim now is to open their slate at the Health and Sports Center on a winning note.
Standouts for the Bucs this year have been
Amra Elezovic, who leads the team with 21 PPG and 6.7 RPG, and
Jackie Perez, leads Barry with nine 3-pointers and is second on the team with 11.7 PPG.
Taking on the Bucs this weekend are the Gallitos of UPR-Rio Piedras. This will be the fourth straight year Barry takes on UPR-RP and the Bucs will be looking for their fourth straight win after defeated the Gallitos 79-58 in 2014.
The Gallitos begin their season with the trip to Miami Shores and will be looking to give the Bucs a challenge.
Standouts for the Gallitos are guards, sophomore Gabriela Maldonado, who scored 24 points in last year's game and junior Jacqueline Rosario, who had 12 points.
A win for Barry will establish the HSC as a tough place to play this season for Barry opponents.
