Bucs advance to the regional finals

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers defeated the West Florida Argonauts 1-0 in the second round of the NCAA Division II South Region 1 Tournament at Buccaneer Field on Sunday.

Amanda Traynor scored the game's lone goal in the 17th minute. She worked some nifty combination passing with Shanice Robe before firing in the shot over the head of UWF keeper Emily Grammer.

The Buccaneer (14-2-1) defense made the goal stand up, though the Argonauts (15-5-1) made them work for it. The Bucs held a 9-8 edge in shots, but on goal it was 6-2 for the Argonauts. IN the second half, the Bucs managed only one shot, while UWF had three very dangerous chances.

Paula Forero had six saves to post her first shutout since blanking Nova Southeastern 2-0 on Oct. 21. IT is also her ninth shutout of the season, tying her for eighth in school history with Janna Schimmels (1995), Brandy Kilpatrick (1999) and Becca Rogers (2013). Grammer made one save, but conceded the deciding goal.

The win snaps a six-game losing streak in the series to the Argonauts, but extends to four games the Bucs' win streak in the NCAA Tournament. In four NCAA Tournament appearances against the Argonauts, the Bucs have yet to concede a goal.

The Bucs advance to the Regional Final against the winner of North Alabama and Tampa in Jefferson City, Tenn., on the campus of Corson-Newman College.
