WINTER PARK, Fla. -- Barry University's volleyball team lost to host Rollins, 25-22, 23-25, 25-20, 25-18, Saturday.
The Buccaneers fell to 13-11, 7-7 in the Sunshine State Conference. Rollins moved to 11-17, 6-8.
Barry led 15-8 in the first set after a kill by
Ivana Didanovic.
Laine Cielena's kill bumped the Bucs lead to 19-14, but the Tars went on a 7-0 run to take a 21-19 lead.
Kaitlin Drake had a kill to cut the Tars lead to 22-21, but Rollins won three of the last four points to take the opening set. The Tars hit .222 in the first set. The Bucs hit .164.
Barry trailed 19-17 in the second set, but took advantage of a Tars attack error and ballhandling error to take a 20-19 lead. Rollins inched back ahead, 22-20, when the Bucs committed the same errors. The Bucs responded with a kill by Drake, two Rollins errors and two more kills by Drake sandwiched around a Tars point to even the match at 1-1. Barry hit .154 and converted 15 of 24 sideouts. The Tars hit .098, and were 14 of 24 in sideouts.
Katie Dooley pounded a kill to bring the Buccaneers within 14-12 in the third set but the Tars used a 4-1 run to widen the gap to 18-13. Cielena had a kill to pull Barry within three, 21-18, but Rollins pulled away down the stretch to move within a set of closing it out. The Buccaneers fell behind 11-5 in the final set, and struggled to recover. Barry hit .062 in the final set. Rollins hit .163.
Drake finished with 16 kills and 10 digs.
Brittany Jaco had 31 digs. Didanovic had 12 kills and two blocks. Cielena had 11 kills, and Dooley seven kills and two solo blocks.
Ariel Mangum had 18 digs.
Jasmine Serna had 43 assists and 18 digs.
Kat Espinosa had 14 digs and four kills.
Barry was held without an ace, while Rollins had three. The Bucs were outblocked 9.5 to 4. The Bucs had 26 attack errors. The Tars had 22.
The Bucs will close the season at Florida Tech and Florida Southern next weekend.
