Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Barry University volleyball team's three-match win streak came to an end Friday night. The Buccaneers lost to host Eckerd, 26-24, 25-23, 25-21, on Dig Pink night in the McArthur Center.
The Buccaneers (11-8, 6-4 Sunshine State Conference) hit .096 on a night they had 32 kills and 22 hitting errors. Eckerd (13-9, 4-6) hit .214 with 36 kills and 15 errors.
Tied 22-22 in the first set, Eckerd took a one-point lead on Tjasa Kotnik's kill. A Tritons error knotted it up again before a Barry service error gave the lead back to Eckerd.
Ivana Didanovic's kill squared things up at 24-24, but the Tritons won the next two points to take the opening set.
With
Ariel Mangum serving in the second set,
Jenny Trinidad tied the score at 22-22 with a kill. Eckerd's attack error gave Barry a one-point lead, but Kotnik put down a ball to tie the score again. Back-to-back attack errors by the Bucs sent the Tritons into intermission leading two sets to none.
Barry tried to play catch-up in the third set, drawing within 14-13 on
Katie Dooley's kill. Eckerd scored the next three points to take a four-point lead before Barry's
Laine Cielena ended the run with a kill. Didanovic's kill pulled the Bucs within 20-18, but the Tritons moved within five-match point on a Barry attack error. Kills by Cielena and
Kaitlin Drake gave the Bucs new life, pulling them within 24-21, but JaQuayla Baker ended the match with a kill.
Drake finished with 12 kills, Didanovic had seven kills and two blocks,
Jasmine Serna had 18 assists, two aces and seven digs. Kotnik had 12 kills, nine digs and three blocks. Baker had nine kills and three blocks.
The Bucs will play at Saint Leo 4 p.m. Saturday.Â
