Box Score MELBOURNE, Fla. -- Barry men's soccer suffered a setback Wednesday night as they fell 3-2 to Sunshine State Conference foe, Florida Tech.
The Buccaneers got off to an early 1-0 lead in the game as
Patrick Borchert scored his first goal of the season in the eighth minute off an assist from
Nyle Patel.
The Bucs would not hold onto the lead in the first half as in 34th minute as Adin Kavara scored to tie the game up 1-1 and at halftime the score would remain tied.
Barry would regain the lead in the 60th minute when
Thomas Coombes scored his eight goal of the year to put the Bucs 2-1. On the assist was
Pablo Georgakopoulos.
But the lead would not last for long, as in the 67th minute FIT would equalize off a Trey Collins goal. Assists on the goal came from Jack Willison and Kavara.
The rest of the game would be a back-and-forth struggle with each team trying to regain the lead and the game seemed destined to go to overtime but with 20 seconds remaining in regular time, Stian Tsesmetsis would win the match for FIT and steal it away from the Bucs.
The loss puts the Bucs at 8-4-2 and 2-4-1 in the SSC and going into their last game of the regular season on Saturday needing at least a win to have a chance at a spot in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament. Florida Tech improves 6-5-2 and 3-3-2 in the conference.
Up next for Barry men's soccer is the final game of the regular season as it heads to Saint Leo on Saturday to take on its conference foe. The game is slated to kickoff at 7 PM.
