MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The seventh-ranked Barry Buccaneers women's soccer team will celebrate Senior Night on Saturday, Oct. 24 when they host the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish.
The 2015 senior class, Alexia Clark, Lavinia Nkomo, Aly Picascio, Shanice Robe and Amber Smith, will be recognized for their contributions to the program. The group has led the Bucs to a 40-15-9 record over the last four years, including 29 shutouts, a 0.84 goals against average and three straight NCAA Tournament bids…so far.
Clark, a three-year letter winner after transferring from St. Thomas University, has played mostly in the defensive third.
Nkomo became one of the most highly decorated players in recent history last year, earning both All-America and Scholar All-America honors in the same year. She was named the SSC Player of the Year after leading the Bucs to their second straight conference title. In 62 career games, 60 starts, she has scored 23 goals, 10 of which were game-winners, and added 17 assists. She is tied for seventh in program history for game-winning goals, tied 17th in assists and 19th in goals. A three-time member of the Athletic Director's honor list and one time Dean's List winner, she has been a member of the SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll every year.
Robe is a two-time letterwinner after transferring from Mount St. Mary's College in New York. In 29 games, making 25 starts, she has scored 11 goals, including three game-winners, and added eight assists. She was named first-team All-Sunshine State Conference last year as a junior and currently ranks tied for third in the conference in points and tied for sixth in goals with seven goals and five assists.
Smith is another four-year letterwinner who has excelled in the defensive third. While playing center back in 49 games, including 43 starts, she ranks 16th in minute played. She has scored three goals, one in each of the last three years, with two of them accounting for conference game winners. She earned SSC Offensive Player of the Week after the Bucs knocked off Rollins when she scored the game-winner in overtime. Another outstanding student, she has been a member of the Dean's List and the SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll.
The Bucs (10-2-1, 6-1-1 Sunshine State Conference) have a six-game unbeaten streak riding into Saturday's game and are currently ranked seventh in the NSCAA National Poll and number one in the NCAA South Region poll.
The Bucs have won all 11 meetings with the Sailfish, including all eight at Buccaneer Field. They have only allowed one goal in the last six games.
Nkomo and Robe continue to pace the offense for the Bucs. Nkomo leads the team with eight goals and 21 points. She has two game-winners and four first goals this season. Robe is right behind her with seven goals and 18 points. Amanda Traynor leads the team, and is second in the conference, with seven assists and has added four goals.
