Volleyball Hosts Florida Southern, Florida Tech

Bucs continue stretch of quality opponents Friday, Saturday

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. — Barry University's volleyball team looks to get back on track when it hosts Florida Southern 7 p.m. Friday. It is the first of two weekend matches in the Health & Sports Center to begin a three-game homestand.

Florida Southern's Anna Tova who has 214 kills, and is currently averaging 3.24 kills per set. She has 611 total attacks on the season. The Moccasins are an efficient defensive team. They have outscored their opponents 168-135. The Buccaneers will look to execute a good game plan on defense, with an emphasis on ball control, to try and challenge the 15th-ranked Mocs.

Barry's match against Florida Southern marks the third straight ranked opponent the Buccaneers will have seen. The Buccaneers (8-7, 3-3 Sunshine State Conference) will also face Florida Tech, another SSC opponent, at 4 p.m. Saturday.

The Mocs are coming off their 1,100th victory all time after beating Valdosta State. Florida Southern is 17-3, 4-3 in the Sunshine State Conference.

The Bucs have attempted 2,113 attacks, while their opponents have taken 2,092 swings. The Buccaneers look to keep their home record above average as they have been better at home with a 3-2 record.

Eva Ratt and newcomer Kaitlin Drake have 356 of the team's 701 kills on the year. Ratt has averaged 3.03 kills per set.  Barry's setters Jasmine Serna and Jenny Trinidad have 595 of the Barry's 655 assists on the year.  Brittany Jaco has 338 digs out of the team's 970. 

Florida Tech's leader in kills is Alea Hamm with 151. She is also the leading blocker with 59 block helpers. Kim Juriga is four kills shy of Alea Hamm with 147. Becca Bower leads the team with 253 digs.

Barry's Katie Dooley and Ivana Didanovic are leading the team in blocks. They have 96 of the team's total. The duo also has 16 out of the team's 22 solo blocks.

Barry will be playing its third straight ranked opponent when it meets No. 15 Florida Southern Friday.
The Buccaneers have met four ranked opponents already this season.
Barry's last win over a ranked opponent was a four-set win over No. 19 West Florida in 2013.
Jaco leads the SSC in digs per set at 5.73.
The Bucs are 24-31 all-time against Florida Southern.
