Bucs finish with the best record in the SSC for the 3rd straight year

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The seventh-ranked Barry Buccaneers knocked off another ranked foe on Wednesday, schooling the 15th-ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks 2-0 in Sunshine State Conference women's soccer action at Buccaneer Field.

Christy Grimshaw got the Bucs (10-2-1, 6-1-1 SSC) on the board in the fifth minute. Shanice Robe passed the ball to Rayah Seckler who rocketed a shot off the hand of Shark keeper Amanda Kopale. Grimshaw was there to clean up the rebound, tapping it in from three yards out.

Though the Bucs led 1-0 at the half, the Sharks (10-3-0, 4-2-0 SSC) held a 7-6 edge in shots and 3-2 edge in corners. The second half was a much different story. Barry out-shot the Sharks 10-3 in the period, hitting the crossbar twice and finally breaking through for a late insurance goal.

Lavinia Nkomo battled the NSU midfield for the ball, coming away with it and space. She fed the ball up the middle to Amanda Traynor all alone and Traynor walked down near the top of the 18-yard box and blasted a shot to the near post to beat Kopale.

Kopale took the loss for the Sharks, snapping their eight-game winning streak. She made seven saves, including five in the second half, but allowed both goals. Paula Forero worked her league-leading eighth clean sheet, making four saves, to earn the win for Barry.

The Bucs now face a pair of games against the provisional conference members Palm Beach Atlantic and Embry-Riddle. The Bucs' 6-1-1 conference mark is the best in the league, though Tampa could tie them with a win at Florida Tech on Saturday. The winner of the regular season earns the right to host the conference tournament semi-finals and finals on Nov. 6 and 8.

The Bucs face Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday, Oct. 24 and will honor the 2015 senior class prior to the 7:00 pm game.
