Women's Soccer Swamps Sailfish on Senior Night

Seniors Robe and Smith back Seckler's brace in the win

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—On a soggy women's soccer Senior Night, the seventh-ranked Barry Buccaneers swamped the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish 4-1 at Buccaneer Field Saturday.

The Buccaneers (11-2-1) dominated the game, but a tricky goal by the Sailfish (4-9-1) made it appear much closer for much of the game. The Bucs held a 22-6 edge in shots, 12-3 on goal.

Shanice Robe got the Bucs on the scoreboard in the 13th minute. Shannell McDonnell took a throw in on the right side and Robe worked to ball all the way down to the baseline before bending in a shot over the head of Isabelle Granlund in the PBA goal.

The 'Fish tied the game in the 40th minute. After a Barry foul, Kayla Fisher served her free kick into the box, where it bounced into the net.

Rayah Seckler gave the Bucs the lead for good in the 52nd minute. She passed the ball to Ingrid Lian, who back-heeled a pass back to Seckler. She drove the ball down and ripped a shot past Granlund.

Seckler added an insurance goal in the 69th minute. Lavinia Nkomo popped a pass over the head of the Sailfish defender to Robe who drove the ball toward the baseline again. This time, she served a nifty little back-heel to a charging Seckler who ripped it through the hands of Granlund for her second goal.

Amber Smith provided the capper for the Bucs, connecting on a 25-yard free kick in the 75th minute.

Paula Forero had a pair of saves in 81:38 to earn the win, while Lauren Surick saw her first action of the season, mopping up the last 8:22 without facing a shot. Grandlund had eight saves, but allowed the four goals to take the loss.

The Bucs, who claimed sole possession of first place in the Sunshine State Conference after the Tampa Spartans fell 3-1 to Florida Tech, close out the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 28. They host the Embry-Riddle Eagles, looking for revenge for one of their two losses on the season, 2-0 on Sept. 19.
