Women's Soccer Travels To Tampa For Final Road Game

The 7th-ranked Buccaneers face another tough road test

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The seventh-ranked Barry Buccaneers travel to Tampa, Fla., on Saturday to take on the Tampa Spartans in a key Sunshine State Conference women's soccer match.

The Bucs (9-2-0, 5-1-0 SSC) are currently atop the conference standings with just two games to go. The Spartans (8-2-2, 4-1-0 SSC) are even with the Bucs in the loss column, but have played one fewer game.

The Bucs are ranked seventh in the latest NSCAA National Poll and fifth in the HERO Sports power rankings.

Shanice Robe and Lavinia Nkomo continue to pace the offense for the Bucs. The pair are tied with seven goals and four assists for 18 points, tied for third in the league in goals and second in points. Amanda Traynor leads the team, and is second in the conference, with seven assists and has added four goals. Nkomo, Traynor and Christy Grimshaw each have two game-winners on the season.

Paula Forero has worked every minute in the nets for the Bucs. She has an 0.80 goals against average and seven shutouts, which lead the league.

Katie Turner has also worked every minute from her center back slot. She has not missed a minute on the field in 38 straight games.

In two games with the Spartans last season, the Bucs won 3-1 in the regular season and tied 1-1 in the SSC Tournament semifinals. Barry holds a 14-9-2 edge in the all-time series.

The Spartans are under new management this season as long-time coach Gerry Lucey was replaced by Erin Switalski. CiCi Gonzalez, who led the league in scoring last year, leads the Spartans with seven goals this season. Newcomers Nastasia Asgedom and Gabby Sirica are tied for the lead with four assists. Caroline Frykgard is third in the league with a 0.90 goals against average.
