MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The fourth-ranked Barry University women's tennis team pummeled the Clark Atlanta Panthers in the first round of the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Tournament on Sunday afternoon.
The Bucs began the day by sweeping the doubles matches to go up 3-0. Barry only allowed the Panthers two games in doubles, all off of unforced Buccaneer errors.
In singles action, the Bucs only needed two points to take the win. Barry's points came at No. 3 and No. 4. In the third flight, Matuszak blanked Bachus 6-0, 6-0 to give Barry their fourth point.
Mona Mansour wrapped up the win for Barry, beating Conley 6-0, 6-0 in the fourth flight.
Barry led in all the unfinished matches. At the top flight, #33 Werschel was up 4-3 in the first set over Makuni. At singles No. 2,
Caroline Wendling led Palmer 5-2 in the first set. Gwizdowski was up a set, 6-2, 2-0, on Dawson and Stas was up 6-0, 5-0 on Reid when the match finished.
With the win, the Bucs return to action tomorrow in the South Regional Championship against #7 West Florida at 3:00 pm. The Bucs have previously beaten the Argonauts in the regular season, winning 6-3 on Feb. 26.
