LAKELAND, Fla.— The fourth-ranked Barry University women's tennis team remained perfect in conference play on Sunday morning with a 8-1 win over the #12 Florida Southern Mocs.
The Bucs went perfect in doubles, winning all three pairings. At the top flight, the #4 team of
Barbi Pocza and
Angie Werschel beat #19 Agnese Rozite and Sabine Goge 8-3. In doubles two,
Laura Boguet and Alex Gwizdoski defeated Veronika Kovacikova and Joalis Dominguez 8-5. In the final doubles flight,
Julie Stas and
Olivia Matuszak beat Laura Wichmann and Crystal Copeland 8-1 at number three.
In singles action, the Buccaneers only loss came at number two where Sabine Goge toppled #23
Angie Werschel 6-1, 6-0.
In the remaining singles matches, #14
Barbi Pocza beat #28 Agnese Rozite 6-1, 6-0 at the top flight. At number three singles, #38
Caroline Wendling defeated Veronika Kovacikova 6-2, 6-3.
In the lower singles flights, Alex Gwizdoski handed Joalis Dominguez an overtime loss, 5-7, 6-2, 10-8, at the fourth flight. At number five singles,
Julie Stas beat Laura Wichmann 6-3, 6-2.
Akemi Maehama rounded out the singles action with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Crystal Copeland.
The Bucs return to action again on Saturday, February 19 when they travel to Melbourne to take on Florida Tech.
