Newberry, S.C.— The Barry Buccaneers held off a ninth-inning rally to beat Newberry College 6-5 on Saturday and close out a three-game sweep.
The Buccaneers (5-1) scored four runs in the third, as
Manny Pedrozo drew a bases-loaded walk and Mitch Rodriquez cleared the bases with a double down the leftfield line, bringing in three runs.
In the ninth inning, Newberry got close as Pollack hit a single to bring in Jon Kirkland and bring the score to 6-5, but
Josh Holmes got Zach Upton to ground out with the winning run on board to earn his first save.
Newberry (5-5) struck first with a run in the second when Mike Morin was walked with the bases loaded, bringing in Jim Pollack.
Charley Short (2-0) earned the win for the Bucs, working six innings and allowing tworuns on four hits. He walked three and struck out four.
The Buccaneers return to action on Sunday, Feb. 15 against Belmont Abbey in Newberry, S.C.
