MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers dropped the opener of a Sunshine State Conference baseball series to the Florida Southern Moccasins 13-2 at Feinbloom Field on Sunday night.
The Mocs (36-16, 16-6 SSC) jumped in front 6-0 after the first three innings and never looked back. Nick Diyorio and Adam Calderone hit homers to back Dan Albritton, who improved to 8-3 on the season. Albritton allowed just one run on eight hits in six innings of work. He did not walk a batter and struck out three.
Jayson Brown (7-5) took the loss for the Bucs (32-20-1, 10-12 SSC). He allowed six runs (three earned) on 10 hits and struck out seven in five innings.
Nick Corbeil became just the second player in Barry history to reach 30 career homers with a solo shot in the sixth inning that got Barry on the scoreboard.
Andrew Frezza added a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to score
Jerry Thornton for the other run.
Cesar Aranguren had three hits for the Bucs, while
Orestes Gonzalez and Thornton each had two.
The series concludes with a doubleheader on Monday at noon.
