MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers rode an 11-run first inning to a 15-6 victory over the St. Thomas Bobcats in baseball action at Feinbloom Field on Tuesday night.
The Bucs (25-12-1) sent 15 batters to the plate in the first frame against St. Thomas pitchers Jose Garcia and Jose Simon. Barry rapped out eight hits in the inning, including the first homer of the season for
Danny Aguiar.
Orestes Gonzalez and
Cesar Aranguren each had a single and a double and drove in three in the inning.
Gonzalez later tied
Nick Corbeil with his ninth home run of the season, a solo shot leading off the fourth inning. He led the Bucs with four hits and four RBI. Meneses added three hits and scored three runs, while
Jesse Naber came off the bench to go two-for-two with two RBI. Aranguren's three RBI in the first inning moved him past Irain Gonzalez (1998-2001) for the school career record with 183 runs batted in.
Aliercy Nunez hit his fourth homer of the year in the eighth inning to shave the Buccaneer lead to 15-6. Daniel DiFabio and Ryan Ricke each had two hits for St. Thomas (23-16).
Bobby Riley (5-0) picked up his fifth straight win, going six innings and allowing two runs on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts. Garcia (4-3) was tagged with eight runs on five hits, two walks and a hit batsman in two-thirds of an inning.
The Bucs will host Florida Gulf Coast this weekend at Feinbloom. Friday's single game starts at 6:00 pm, while the doubleheader on Saturday is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
