TAMPA, Fla. - The #4 University of Tampa Spartans (20-3, 4-0 SSC) matched its school record for consecutive wins in a season with a 12-0 victory over the Barry Buccaneers (18-8,2-2 SSC).
The Spartan's Sergio Perez (4-1) pitched a complete game no-hitter to shutdown the Buccaneer offense. Perez only allowed two walks in the game with a career-high 15 strikeouts.
Jayson Brown (3-3) took the mound for the Bucs and was perfect through three innings until he gave up a grand slam to J.R. Hopf. The Spartans had loaded the bases on two Buccaneer errors and a hit batsman.
The Spartans added eight more runs over the following four innings to put the contest away.
Brown pitched six innings, allowing five hits leading to eight runs (three earned) and struck out five.
The Buccaneers will conclude the three-game set tomorrow afternoon with a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm.
