ORLANDO – The duo of Tiina Saario and Tiffany Rolfing swept the Sunshine State Conference women’s soccer Player of the Week awards for the week ending Sept. 25. The pair led the Bucs to SSC wins over Nova Southeastern and Rollins to extend the Buccaneers’ unbeaten streak in conference play to 49 consecutive games dating back to 1998.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK -- Barry University senior M Tiina Saario (Helsinki, Finland) scored three goals and led the #16 Bucs to key conference wins over Nova Southeastern and Rollins. She set the tone by scoring the first goal in each match and went on to notch two goals in the 4-0 win over NSU. Saario’s team-leading eight goals is one shy of her career high.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK -- Barry University freshman sweeper Tiffany Rolfing (Sioux Falls, S.D.) was the only player to log 180 minutes played in the Bucs’ two conference wins. Against Nova Southeastern, she marked the SSC’s leading scorer, Shurell Burton, and held her scoreless for the first time in her collegiate career. She also swept a ball of the goal line early in the Rollins game to keep the match scoreless until Saario was able to give the Bucs a lead.
