MELBOURNE, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers dropped a 6-3 decision to the Florida Tech Panthers in a non-league baseball game at Seminick-Hall Field on Tuesday.
The Panthers (21-14) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning after Bryan Stanton tripled and scored on a fly ball by Jonathan Baksh.
Tech added three unearned runs in the third inning.
Alex Brown walked and Will Lanier reached on a error by Buc second sacker
Brett Rossi. After a bunt advanced the runners, Baksh delivered a two-run double and later scored on a single by Anthony Mendillo.
The Bucs (20-13) closed to 4-3 in the fifth inning off Panther starter Mike McFadden (2-1).
Ricky Sanchez doubled and scored on a two-out single by
Andrew Frezza. Frezza trotted around on
Bobby Hartney's first homer of the season.
But that was as close as the Bucs would get as the Panthers added two more runs in the sixth inning and Kendall Bos tossed four scoreless innings in relief of McFadden.
McFadden went five innings and allowed three runs on three hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Bos went the rest of the way, giving up two hits and a walk, striking out four.
Mike Davila (1-1) took the loss for the Bucs. He went three innings, allowing four runs (one earned) on three hits and a walk with three strikeouts.
The Bucs travel this weekend to Orlando, Fla., to face the Rollins Tars in a Sunshine State Conference series.
