Box Score 2 LA JOLLA, Calif.--The Barry Buccaneers closed out the UC San Diego Volleyball Tournament with an impressive 30-28, 35-33, 26-30, 30-28 win over #7-ranked Cal State San Bernadino to finish the tournament 3-1.
The Bucs (3-1) trailed by as many as five points in game one before rallying for the two-point win.
Kelly Dantas led the way for the Bucs with six kills, as Barry out-hit the Coyotes .378 to .267.
The second game was even tighter. The Coyotes led 24-19, but
Fernanda Brino led a 10-5 run to knot the game at 29-29 with three kills and a service ace. After exchanging side-out points, a service error by Brianna Harris gave the Bucs game point and
Samanta Tucillo responded with a kill to seal the game.
The Coyotes (3-1) would not go gently, however, bouncing back from the heartbreak of game to to take game three. They blistered the net for a .435 attack percentage for the 30-26 win.
In game four, the Bucs asserted themselves, leading the whole way. CSU-San Bernadino, knotted the game at 27-27, after trailing 25-20, but Barry score three of the last four points to come away with the win.
Karla Bersano led the Bucs with 23 kills and added 23 digs. Brino chipped in 17 kills and 25 digs. Harris led all hitters with 27 kills for the Coyotes.
Barry returns home to take on Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras on Saturday, Sept. 4 at 7:00 pm.
Volleyball Defeats Chico State At UCSD Tourney
LA JOLLA, Calif.—The Barry Buccaneers knocked off the Chico State Wildcats in straight games, 30-25, 30-20, 30-23, at the UC San Diego Volleyball Tournament on Saturday.
The Bucs (2-1) grabbed a quick lead early in the first game and coasted in for the win with every players seeing game action.
Barry committed 11 service aces as they continued to struggle in that aspect, but overcame those woes by hitting a season-high .321 for the match, including a blistering .480 in game two.
Fernanda Brino led the Bucs in kills for the third straight match with 11 and also had 11 digs.
Samanta Tucillo had her best offensive game with 10 kills and three service aces.
Jamie Houle and Jenna Muhlenburg each had 10 kills for the Wildcats (0-3).
Barry concludes the Tournament at 5:00 pm PDT today taking on the eighth-ranked Cal State San Bernadino Coyotes.
