Box Score 2 LA JOLLA, Calif.—The Barry Buccaneers dropped the nightcap on the first day of the UC San Diego Volleyball Tournament to the host Tritons, 24-30, 30-20, 30-26, 30-20.
The Tritons hit but .103 in game one and the Bucs took advantage to earn the win. But UCSD recovered to hit .363 over the last three games as the swept the match victory.
Fernanda Brino led the Bucs in kills for the second straight match with 17, while
Kelly Dantas added 14. Bonnie Wilson led all players with 26 kills for the Tritons.
The Bucs take on Chico State and former Buccaneer assistant coach Cody Hein at 9:30 am PDT on Saturday and conclude the tournament against #8-ranked Cal State San Bernadino at 5:00 pm.
Volleyball Clips Eagles in Opener
LA JOLLA, Calif.—The Barry Buccaneers opened the 2004 season with a 3-1 win over the Golden Eagles of Cal State L.A., at the UC San Diego Volleyball Tournament.
The Bucs started out sluggishly, dropping the first game 30-24. Five service errors did the Bucs in, as both teams had 13 kills and one block.
In the second game, the Bucs tightened up and won 30-20 to even the match. The Bucs only had five kills for the game, but
Fernanda Brino and
Karla Bersano each had three service aces and the Eagles committed 11 attack errors. Game three was more of the same with the Bucs taking the game 30-21.
Kelly Dantas had four kills and two blocks.
The Bucs prevailed 30-27 in the final game to secure the win.
Karla Bersano had six kills, while Dantas controlled the net with four blocks.
For the match, Brino led the Bucs with 13 kills and five service aces, while Bersano added 11 kills and four aces. Dantas had 10 kills and nine blocks. Te'ara Epps led the Eagles with 15 kills.
The Bucs (1-0) take on the host UC San Diego Tritons at 7:30 PDT in match two. The Tritons defeated Seattle 3-0 earlier in the day.
