Box Score SAVANNAH, Ga.--The Barry men's tennis team fell 5-4 to the #9-ranked Lander Bearcats at the Pirate Invitational at Armstrong Atlantic State on Sunday.
The Bucs started well, winning two of the three doubles, with the teams of Dirk Benninghaus and Victor Rodriguez at number two and Sebastian Losavio and Filip Norrman at number three each posting 8-6 wins. The Bearcats salvaged one point as Rob Steckly and Erik Flygt defeated the Bucs' Gerold Wiring and
Thomas Hipp 8-3 at number one.
But Barry's Sebastian Losavio could not answer the bell for singles forcing everyone to move up a slot and then Wiring was forced to default at number two. Hipp pulled off an upset of #4-ranked Steckly 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 at number one and Rodriguez defeated Edstrom 6-2, 6-4 at number three. The Bearcats won the bottom three flights to claim the win, including a three-set marathon by Henrik Erlandsson over Filip Norrman at number five.
The Bucs will host Dowling on Wednesday, Apr. 7 at the Buccaneer Tennis Center at 3:00 pm.
