Men's Tennis Falls One Win Short

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 ORLANDO – The Barry University men's tennis team fell one win short of winning the Sunshine State Conference Tennis Tournament losing to host Rollins College 5-1 earlier today at the Martin Tennis Courts.

The Bucs (19-5) fell behind early on as Rollins came out strong winning two of three doubles matches. Barry's only point came at number three where Victor Rodriguez and Alex Praderas teamed up to knock off Rollins David Tafur and Mike Compton 8-4.

The Tars (20-4) then finished off the Bucs winning the number two, four and five singles to win their first Sunshine State Conference title since 2001.

The Bucs must now wait for the Southeast Regional tournament pairings to be announced to find out when and where they will play next.

Men's Tennis To Play For SSC Crown


ORLANDO -- The Barry University men's tennis team advanced on to the finals of the Sunshine State Conference Tennis Tournament with a 5-0 win over Lynn University earlier today at the Martin Tennis Courts.

The two-seeded Bucs (19-4) jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after sweeping all three doubles matches from the Knights (12-10) including hard fought 9-7 wins at both the number one and two slots. Gerold Wiring and Thomas Hipp earned the win in the top flight and Sebastian Losavio and Filip Norrman picked up the win in slot two. Alex Praderas and Victor Rodriguez completed the sweep rolling over their opponents 8-2.

The Bucs then picked up their final two points in singles action with Norrman winning at number five 6-2, 7-5 and Praderas at number six 6-0, 6-3.

The Bucs now face host Rollins College in the final match tomorrow afternoon to decide who will wear the SSC crown.

Men's Tennis Advances In SSC Tourney


ORLANDO – The Barry University men's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the Sunshine State Conference men's tennis tournament with a 5-0 win Saint Leo on Friday afternoon at the Bert Martin Tennis Center on the campus of Rollins College.

The second-seeded Bucs (18-3) got off to a great start sweeping all three doubles matches winning 8-1 at the number one and two slots and 8-0 at number 3.

In singles action, Sebastian Losavio made quick work of Saint Leo's (0-14) Adrian Nakayama 6-0, 6-2 at the number two spot, while Andres Varela breezed by B.J. Grant 6-1, 6-1 at number 5 to close out the match.

The Bucs advance to the semifinals tomorrow where they will meet up with the number three seed Knight of Lynn University.
