Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The sixth-ranked Barry University men's tennis team (12-1) dropped the visiting Rutgers Scarlet Knights (1-5) 8-1 earlier today at the Buccaneer Tennis Complex.
The Buccaneers pounced on the fiesty Knights early winning all three doubles matches.
Thomas Hipp and Gerold Wiring took the top flight 8-6 over Rutgers' Tyler Deming and Harry Cicma, while Dirk Benninghaus and Victory Rodriguez posted an 8-3 win over Matt Fawcett and Gordie Milchutsky at number two. Filip Norrman and Sebastian Losavio defeated Alex Tervooren and Gabe Adams 8-4 at the bottom flight to give the advantage heading into the singles match-ups.
Notorious for maintaining his poise, Hipp knocked off an arrogant Deming at the top flight singles 6-2, 7-5, while Losavio defeated Rutgers' Balasz Galdi 6-2, 6-1 at number three. Rodriguez won in similar fashion knocking off Fawcett 6-3, 6-0 at the fourth flight. Both Wiring and Norrman were stretched to a super tiebreaker at the second and fifth flights respectively. Wiring defeated Milchutsky 6-3, 6-7, and 10-8, while Norrman downed Cicma 6-3, 4-6 and 10-6.
The Buccaneers return to the hardcourt on Thursday, Mar. 18 at 3 pm playing host to Vanguard.
