Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers flew past the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles 5-2 at the Buccaneer Tennis Center in men's action on Friday.
The Bucs narrowly missed sweeping the doubles when Gulf Coast's Franco Mata and Richard Stempnowski rallied for a 9-8 win at number three. Gerold Wiring and Filip Norrman knocked off the Eagles' Jose Pastrello and Wolfgang Pinther 8-3 at the top flight and
Thomas Hipp and Dirk Benninghaus topped Nestor Nunez and Seth Fogelman by the same score.
In singles, Barry's Hipp played a rematch of the ITA Regional final with Stempnowski and avenged his earlier defeat with a convincing 6-1, 6-4 win. At number two singles, Sebastian Losavio, ranked 43rd in the ITA national poll, upset 20th-ranked Nestor Nunez 6-4, 6-4. Wiring put the clincher on the match with a 7-6, 6-0 win at number three over Pastrello.
Fogelman provided the Eagles their only singles point, defeating Benninghaus 6-3, 6-3. The other two singles matches were halted after splitting the first two sets.
Barry improves to 3-0 on the season, while Florida Gulf Coast falls to 2-2.
