Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry University women's basketball team won their second straight Sunshine State Conference game of the season dropping the Lynn University Fighting Knights 74-56 earlier tonight at the Health & Sports Center.
The Buccaneers (6-7, 2-0 SSC) opened the first half of play taking a commanding 19-5 lead with 11:20 remaining. However, the Knights (3-9, 0-2 SSC) battled back trimming the lead to four at the 2:26 mark. Heading into the half, the Buccaneers regained control leading 33-25 at the break.
Lynn came out in the second half and narrowed the gap to four a second, time, but the Buccaneer offensive attack closed the door on the struggling Knights. The Bucs took a 57-37 lead at 7:56 and held on for 74-56 victory.
Karla Mast led the Buccaneer efforts scoring a career-high 27 points, eclipsing her 26 points she posted against Gannon on Nov. 29. Yojana Rodriguez followed with 14 points and three block shots, while Yashica Nesbit added 12 points and six steals off the bench.
Heather Ignacek led Lynn with 11 points off the bench, while Cherise George, Liz Speliotes, and Allegra Armstrong each added eight.
The Buccaneers will return to the hardwood on Thursday, Jan. 8 hosting Nova Southeastern at the Health & Sports Center.
