Box Score MIAMI SHORES – The Barry University women's basketball team overpowered Saint Leo 72-54 in an SSC match-up earlier this afternoon at the Health & Sports Center.
The Buccaneers took control right from the get go jumping out to an early 9-2 lead at the 17:13 and extended that their to 15 at 34-19 with just seconds remaining in the half before the Lions scored the final 5 points of the half cutting the Bucs lead to 10 heading into the locker room.
The Bucs controlled the second half for much of the way, although, the Lions did manage go get themselves within striking distance at 44-39 with 14:41 to play. The Bucs then turned it up putting together a 10-4 run extending their lead to 11 with 8:22 to play. The Bucs went on a scoring spree the rest of the way and at one point saw their lead extend 22 at 72-50 with just minutes remaining. The Lions then managed to close out the game with back-to-back basket, however, it was not enough as the Bucs held on for the 72-54 victory.
Yashica Nesbit led the Bucs with 19 points, while Karla Mast and Sanja Zivanovic each added 10. Saint Leo's Rosetta Little led all scorers with 26 points.
The Bucs return to action on Tuesday when they visit Florida Tech at 5:30 pm.
