Box Score Jacksonville, Fla. -- The Barry University volleyball team notched their second win of the season eclipsing the Northern Kentucky Norse 3-0 at the Osprey Invitational hosted by North Florida earlier this afternoon. The Bucs also defeated Ferris State 3-0 (30-25, 30-17, 30-26) in the season-opener earlier this morning.
In the first and third games, the Bucs had match point at 29-28 only to have the tenacious Norse battle back for a chance to win. However, the Bucs blistered the opposition with a .351 team attack percentage in the final game to outlast NKU and to win the match in three games 36-34, 30-27, 31-29.
Fernanda Ferreira was the first to tally double-digit kills in the 2003 campaign leading the Bucs with 12.
Simone Ferrarezi, returning after a redshirt season in 2002, and freshman
Nicole Castera each turned in a nine-kill performance.
Melissa Lehman directed the Buccaneer attack with a team-high 22 assists.
Kristin Koralewski and Cami Welter lead the Norse with 15 and 14 kills respectively.
Wrapping up the season-opening weekend with a pair of wins, the Buccaneers improved to 2-0 overall while the Norse fell to 0-4. The Buccaneers return to action on a whirlwind tour halfway across the globe in Hawai'i Sept. 4-6. The Bucs will face Chaminade, top-25 Hawai'i Pacific and UC San Diego, with an additional stop to face NCAA Division II defending national champion BYU-Hawai'i.
