Box Score ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.--The Barry tennis teams lived to fight another day at the NCAA Division II Tennis National Tournament on Thursday. The Buc men defeated Valdosta State 5-2 and the women knocked off previously unbeaten Ouachita Baptist 5-4.

In the women's match, Barry rebounded from a 3-0 doubles deficit to win five of the six singles flights and avenge an earlier 5-4 loss to the Tigers.

After doubles, Greta Trotman quickly got the Bucs on the board with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Inga Ziemina at number four. But Maria Lopez fell 6-0, 6-4 to Carolina Lopez-Ascarte at number five, forcing the Bucs to win the final four matches.

Gizella Turbok handled Brenda Magnetti 6-3, 6-2 at number three and Valeria Papandrea beat Sabrina Benitez 7-6, 6-2 at number. Benitez had beaten Papandrea in the first meeting.

At number one, Conny Grunes knocked off Victoria Domina 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, leaving Victoria Courmes at number two with the final match. Courmes trailed 4-0 in the final set, but rallied to beat Helena Besovic 7-6, 2-6, 6-4 and make the final margin 5-4.

The women (25-3) advance to face Northwest Missouri State at 1:00 pm on Friday. The Tigers close out their season 26-1.

The Buc men (22-3) extinguished the Valdosta State Blazers 5-2. The Bucs won two of three doubles and then captured the top three singles flights to advance to the second round.

Samir M'Bioka took down VSU's Marco Borges 7-6, 6-4 at the top flight. Gerold Wiring handled Peter Kreutzfeldt 6-4, 6-0 at number three. Thomas Hipp closed out the match with a 6-7, 6-4, 6-2 win over Christoph Scheidner at number two.

Barry advances to face Southwest Baptist at 8:00 am on Friday.
