Box Score 2 MIAMI SHORES – The Barry University men's and women's tennis teams each recorded victories Friday afternoon at the Buccaneer Tennis Center with the women knocking off Cornell 7-2 and men also winning by the score of 7-2 over Tufts University.
In women's action, the Bucs got off to a strong start sweeping all three double matches including an 8-4 victory at #1 by Cornelia Grunes and Gizella Turbok.
In singles, the Bucs took four of the six matches. Turbok and Grunes were again impressive recording victories at the #1 and #2 slots. Turbok defeated Cornell's Akane Kokubo in three sets 4-6, 7-5, 6-0, while Grunes overpowered Laura Tallent in two sets 6-0, 6-2. Also recording points for the Bucs were Greta Trotman at #3 and Maria Lopez at #4.
On the men's side, the Bucs again were perfect sweeping all three doubles matches. Samir M'Bioka and
Thomas Hipp were dominant at #1 recording an 8-2 victory, while Dirk Benninghaus and Alex Praderas also were solid completing the 8-2 victory at #2.
In singles, the Bucs recorded four victories at the top four slots. Buccaneer Gerold Wiring got the Bucs off to a strong start defeating Tufts David Ruttenberg 6-4, 6-1 at #1. Sebastian Losavio then defeated Rifat Perahya in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 at #2 and Filip Norrman slipped by Jon Bram at #3 7-6, 7-5. Praderas closed out the match with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Danny Lang at #4.
The women's team improves their record to 16-1 on the season, while the men remain perfect at 13-0. The women return to action on Saturday, playing host to Armstrong Atlantic at 3:00 pm.
