Box Score 2 FORT MYERS, Fla.--The Barry Buccaneers swept a tennis doubleheader from the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles at the FGCU Tennis Complex on Saturday. The Buc men won 7-2 and women swept through with a perfect 9-0.
On the men's side, the Bucs, ranked 12th in the ITA national poll, made short work of the 28th ranked Eagles. Barry won all three doubles and the top four singles. Samir M'Bioka and
Thomas Hipp combined for three points at the top of the ladder. M'Bioka disposed of Richard Stempnowski 6-4, 6-2 at number one singles and Hipp knocked off Nestor Nunez 6-3, 6-3 at number two. The duo combined to trip up the team of Evan Pinther and Yuri Mantilla at number one doubles.
On the women's side, the score was even more lopsided as the Bucs won every match. Of the 12 singles sets in the six matches, five were 6-0 Barry wins. The Eagles best showing came at number one singles where Juliana Garcia carried Gizella Turbok to a tie-breaker in the first set. But Turbok responded with a 6-putcond set to putr the point away. Victoria Courmes and Conny Grunes both lost only a single game apiece at number two and three.
Both Barry team improve to 2-0. The Eagle men fall to 0-1, while the women are now 0-2.
The Bucs travel to West Palm Beach on Thursday for a 2:00 pm matchup with Northwood.
