Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers clinched a share of the Sunshine State Conference volleyball title with a 3-0 win over Eckerd at the McArthur Center Saturday afternoon. The swept the three-game match 30-22, 30-24 and 30-17.
The Bucs (23-3, 13-1 SSC) opened with a dominating performance in game one. Middles
Sarah Alexander and
Kelly Dantas combined for nine kills, no errors and a .750 attack percentage.
The Tritons (17-15, 4-10 SSC) rebounded to play better in the final two games, but could not top the #4-ranked Buccaneers.
Fernanda Brino led a balanced Buccaneer attack with 10 kills, while Alexander and Dantas each had nine.
Samanta Tucillo had 16 digs. Dantas also had seven total blocks and
Daniela Lanza added six to go along with 38 assists.
Adrienne Prestemon led the Tritons with 16 kills, while Alex Arendell had 14 digs and 27 assists.
With the win, the Buccaneers clinched at least a share of the SSC title pending the outcome of the Tampa/Lynn match tonight.
The Buccaneers await word from the NCAA on a post-season bid. Bids are releases Sunday and night and the Buccaneers, currently ranked number one in the South Region, expect to be named host of the regional tournament Nov. 20-22.
