Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The fourth-ranked Barry University volleyball team stunned the Saint Leo Lions in three 30-21, 30-4, and 30-16 earlier tonight in Sunshine State Conference action at the Health & Sports Center.
Saint Leo (9-7, 1-3 SSC) proved to be a well disciplined team to start the match carrying the highly touted Buccaneers (12-2, 4-0 SSC) a 30-21 finish in the first game. However in game two, the ball bounced in the Bucs' favor as they cruised to a 30-4 win. Saint Leo's poise began to seep back in the final game, but the Buccaneers simply overpowered the Lions to win 30-16.
For the match, the Buccaneers hit .318 as a team to the Lions' -.078.
Behind a well-balanced attack,
Simone Ferrarezi hit .350 with eight kills to lead the Bucs.
Fernanda Ferreira,
Fernanda Brino and
Jentry Redinger each had seven kills on the night.
Daniela Lanza directed the Bucs with 24 assists.
Alison Baker led the Lions with five kills and a .417 hitting percentage, while Eva Thompson registered a match-high 13 digs. Robbie Beach finished with only nine assists.
The Buccaneers will resume conference play hosting Florida Southern at the Health & Sports Center on Sunday, Oct. 5 at 2 pm.
