Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The second-ranked Barry University volleyball team thrashed the Eckerd Tritons in Sunshine State Conference play 30-21, 30-14, 31-29 earlier today at the Health & Sports Center.
In the first game, the Tritons (13-6, 2-4 SSC) battled with the highly touted Buccaneers (14-2, 6-0 SSC) hitting .423 as a team. However, behind
Fernanda Brino's 10 kills and the team's .476 team hitting percentage, the Bucs won 30-21.
The Buccaneers took a clear advantage in the second game blistering the Tritons with a .414 team hitting percentage for the 30-14 win. The Bucs barely escaped the tenacious Eckerd defense in the final game 31-29.
Brino led the Buccaneer charge with 13 kills and a .296 attack percentage, while
Simone Ferrarezi followed with 12 kills and a .357 attack percentage.
Daniela Lanza directed the Barry attack with a team-high 24 assists.
Adrienne Prestemon was the only Triton to post double-digit kills leading Eckerd with 14 kills and a .281 attack percentage. Alex Arendell posted a match-high 28 assists.
The Buccaneers also set a new school record winning their 30th consecutive game, a streak that started on Sept. 13 with a 3-2 come-from-behind win over North Florida. The old record of 28 games won had stood since the 1994 season.
The Buccaneers will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 12 hosting fifth-ranked Tampa at the Health & Sports Center at 2 pm.
