Box Score TAMPA, Fla. -- The Barry University women's basketball team (7-8, 1-1 SSC) fell hard to the Tampa Spartans (12-3, 2-0 SSC) 82-62 earlier today at the Martinez Center.

The Buccaneers opened the game with an early 7-2 lead at the 13:34 mark, but the Spartans went on a 16-0 run to take the lead 18-7 with 7:39 remaining in the first half. The Spartans scored 18 more to take a 36-21 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Spartans continued to stretch the lead to 22 with 13:52 left to play, but three back-to-back three-pointers by Barry's Sanja Zivanovic sparked a run to bring the Bucs within eight (58-50) at 9:20. However, it was all the Bucs could muster as they fell to the Spartans 82-62.

Sanja Zivanovic led the Bucs with a season-high 24 points, while Candace Blackbird followed with 12.

Jessie McDowell was the Spartans' leader registering her first career triple-double with a game-high 18 points, 13 rebounds and 10 blocks.

The Bucs will return to the friendly confines of the Health & Sports Center on Jan. 15th at 7:30 pm hosting Eckerd.
