Box Score TAMPA, Fla.—Barry University women's soccer team defeated the University of Tampa Spartans 3-1 in a heated match today to successfully continue their undefeated season.
The Bucs took an early 1-0 lead when
Emelie Karlsson chipped in the first goal for the Bucs at 15:25 with the help of
Tammie Thornton. The Spartans answered back with a goal at 25:02 by Melanie Moody to tie the game.
Entering the second half with the game dead-locked at 1-1, the Bucs took charge of their destiny, dominating play and putting away two more goals. Pam McDonald gave the Bucs a spark of energy as she drove in an unassisted goal from a direct kick rebound just outside the 18 yard box at 64:12. Following her lead,
Marie Gunnarsson put away the final goal of the game off a pass from
Amy Tewis at 69:13 as her cross found its way into the goal to put the Bucs up 3-1.
The Bucs' defense once again pulled together to shut out the Spartans in the second half and hold onto their two goal lead.
Johanna Fischer extended her record to 9-0-0 by making one save on six Spartan shots. Tampa keeper Jade Berbert falls to 3-5-0 on her season despite stopping 10 of the Bucs' 26 shots.
The Bucs extend their winning streak to nine games, improving to 9-0-0 overall and 5-0-0 in the Sunshine State Conference. They look to continue their undefeated season as they face Rollins at Buccaneer Field in Miami Shores, Fla. at 7:00 pm on Thursday Oct. 3. The Spartans fall to 3-5-0 overall and 2-1 in the SSC.
