Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. -- The Barry University volleyball team survived the vicious attack of the Florida Southern Moccasins winning in a five game set 3-2 in the 2002 Sunshine State Conference opener.
It was a tight game from the opening serve with the Bucs squeezing out game on 30-28. However, the Mocs returned the favor winning game two 30-17. Regaining their composure for game three, the Bucs won 30-26. However, the tenacious Mocs won game four 30-26 sending the match into a fifth game decision. The Bucs came out taking the lead in the final game and held on to win 15-13.
Karla Bersano paced all attackers with a match-high 27 kills and tallied 14 digs.
Fernanda Ferreira followed with 18 kills, while
Melissa Lehman added a team-high 15 digs.
Daniela Lanza finished with a match-high 54 assists.
The Moccasins had four players to register double-digit kills. Jamie Johnson registered 16, Pamela Stein 16, Jenni Holste 11 and Rachelle Konczal 10. Cara Cosper also tied the match-high in digs with 15.
The Bucs improved to 5-4 overall and 1-0 in the SSC, while the 8-6, and 0-1 in the SSC. They will return to action on Saturday playing West Texas A&M at 7:30 pm in Lakeland, Fla.
